WHY DO PEOPLE STRUGGLE?

In the beginning when God created man, struggling was not our portion and if you quest the scriptures, you will find out that before the fall of Adam and Eve, before they were cast out of Eden, there was no record of them struggling. Struggling began after they left Eden because they had sinned. When you become born-again, God comes to dwell in you but when you disobey and sin, He disappears; and so after disobedience, Adam was driven out of God's presence. He began to suffer because he was out of the place God had prepared for him - when God prepares a place for you; when he prepares a ministry, job, nation and you leave that place, you fall out of His will, grace and protection; this also implies that you are also out of His provision and guidance among other things.

When God drove out Adam and Eve, He told them that they would survive out of their sweat. Genesis 3:19 (NLT) says; “By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat…..”  

When someone works hard and does not achieve their target, it means they are struggling. Struggling is not a blessing; for it came as a curse. Even before Jesus came, God sent prophets who revealed His mission and purpose; they spoke of times to come where there would be no struggle and peace will flourish in the land (Isaiah 2:1-5).

Three in One

In the days of the Old Testament, for the prophets to prophesy, the Holy Spirit had to descend down first; so when they were about to prophesy, the Spirit would fall on them to prophesy and speak the secrets of God, and after that He would leave (Numbers 11:25, Judges 3:10, 1 Samuel 10:10). 

The Holy Spirit would fall upon them on the day of the Lord but not manifest on the inside: Why? because their bodies inside were unclean; so its the coming of Jesus that gave us the opportunity to receive the Holy Spirit; His coming led to the shedding of his blood, which had the ability to cleanse us and wash away our sins; He thereafter came to this temple (body) and made it possible for the Holy Spirit to reside in us. 

Prophet Isaiah spoke of the day to come, when the temple would be cleansed and the Holy Spirit given unto us.  Isaiah 7:14 (NLT) says; ”The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” 

The prophesy of Isaiah was the proclamation of God coming to live with us and in us; Immanuel – God inside a man’s body. Prophet Joel also prophesied of the time to come when God will pour out His Spirit and draw near unto us. Joel 2:28 says; "Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my spirit upon all people......" 

When God draws near a person by pouring His Spirit, He does so to reveal himself and his plans. Everything today is in the hands of the Holy Spirit, even the angels listen to his voice because He controls them.

From the beginning, God would appear in three different forms; God the father; God the Son (Jesus) and the Spirit – Immanuel which means God is with us. How was all this possible? God created his own body, became incarnate and came to live with and among us so that he can save humanity - he gave us another opportunity to always dwell with us. He told the people that he was able to take his life and then restore it in three days (John 2:19-21). Jesus spoke with the authority of God the Father who put on flesh – Jesus, and came to live with us forever – Holy Spirit. God the father, put on flesh, came and walked with us for 33 years but the world did not discern that He was the one who had created the world.

Jesus, Born of God

Jesus was God in the flesh; God is spirit and a spirit can inhabit anything. Mary gave birth to Jesus but not Christ; she gave birth to the Child not the Son. For the scripture says in Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) that; “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given” 

A Child is born but a son is never born, so don’t confuse the two! Mary is the mother of the child not the Son; the child is the body that was born, the Son is given - put inside the body; the child – Jesus is the body and the Son – Christ is the Spirit; Jesus was completely man and Christ was completely God, thus the Child made the Son legal on earth. When God created earth, he gave dominion (Genesis 1:26) to man and so for him to be able to come on earth and be able to intervene and rescue humanity. 

He had to enter into a human body – incarnation; this is because any spirit without a body is illegal on earth (demons can under certain conditions indwell in human or animal bodies); and we see that satan entered Peter to try and distract Jesus from the will of the Father (Mathew 16:22-23); and also entered Judas to betray Jesus (Luke 22:3).

Human simply means a spirit being in a humus body. The word humus means dirt or soil, and man is the spirit part; so a human being is a spirit with a humus body. God took man (spirit being) and placed him in humus (dirt) thus coming up with a humus-man; the middle syllable was dropped to come up with one word - human. 

A person is a spirit not the body, the body only enables you to legally do things on earth; so demon possession is a demon trying to use your body to function on earth, and that is why we can cast them out because they have no legal authority outside a body. So for demons to cause harm or evil, they will have to enter into a body, and I always say that; demons are persons without bodies; so its living bodies that make them functional.

God created a body for himself, entered it and used it to cleanse our sins – for the blood of Jesus is so powerful and without sin. Jesus was without biological father (because He was born of God) and even the Jews waited as required by their culture, for the day when the father of this baby Jesus (whom they claimed had been begot out of wedlock) would come and declare that the child belongs to him. They sought to stone him. But His father appeared at river Jordan when Jesus had gone to be baptized; and declared in Matthew 3:17 (NIV) that; “…This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 

There has never been any other person whom God spoke audibly about from heaven; that happened once, and after that moment, Jesus begun to operate as the Son of the most High while also making use of the power, authority and riches from above.

When Jesus died as it was written, He shed his blood and His blood cleansed humanity; then he left the body, which had completed its mission. The body had to ascend to where it came from. Unlike man who was created from the dirt (Genesis 1:26), Jesus did not come from dirt and thus could not return to it and when he was buried, he only spent 3 days in the tomb; His body could not suffer corruption nor see decay. Acts 13:37 (AMP) says; “But He whom God raised [to life] did not experience decay [in the grave].”

God’s Perfect Will – Holy Spirit

Jesus resurrected and ascended to heaven and He will return the same way he went up; as he was seen ascending, so shall he descend (Acts 1:11). With Jesus’ ascension, the Father implied that He will return to fulfill His desire of saving and dwelling among his people (Hebrews 9:28). God had this desire right from the Old Testament. According to scriptures, He called Moses and asked him to build a place that he could dwell in. Exodus 25:8-9 (NLT) says; “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. 9 You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you.” 

In the Tabernacle were three areas; the outer courts (body); Holy place (soul); Holy of Holies (spirit). The golden lamp symbolizing the presence of God was to be positioned in the holy place; it was a symbol of Jesus, the light of the World (Hebrews 9:2). What does this mean? God was saying that He will reside in your heart not your body - His presence will dwell in you not fall on you as it was in the Old Testament

In the New Covenant, the plan of God came to fulfillment; the Holy Spirit is with and in us; Jesus assures us in John 14:15-17 that; "If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you."

If Jesus had not died, this would not have happened; we wouldn’t have had the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus died and shed his blood so that the Holy Spirit would dwell in us. The presence of the Holy Spirit brought something so paramount - it stops us from struggling because when He dwells in you, He guides and instructs you. The journey of salvation is about instruction; this is because when Satan came into the world he disorganized, misplaced and scattered everything God had created and planned, that is why he is also referred to as the confuser. It’s God’s desire to instruct and guide us in the right direction as per his plan and purpose, hence His reason for administering the Holy Spirit to His children – to lead us into God's true plan. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit (Counselor) , you will be led truthfully and guided as per God’s plan thus eradicating struggling in life.

Chosen, Equipped and Purposed

Before we were formed in the womb, God knew us (Jeremiah 1:5). We were known before we knew. Before it ever crossed our minds that God might be important, God singled us out as important, we are not options but priorities to him; so we no longer have to run here and there, try this and that, panicked, anxious, worried, searching for answers to a purposeful fruitful life.  Our lives are not puzzles to be solved; rather we come to the Lord God our Creator who knows us and reveals to us the truth of our lives; the problem and number one mistake is that we usually start with ourselves and not God yet He is the Alpha and Omega, and the centre from which life springs and develops.

Not everything good thing is right and not every right thing is meant for you. You were created, equipped, graced and purposed for a particular mission or task - for our God is a specific God! Struggling is sometimes as a result of being vague and taking on everything thrown at you. Struggling is a result of doing that which God did not plan and purpose for you.

When it comes to divine godly things, there is predestination. Predestination is a biblical doctrine. The word predestine is from the Greek word ‘proorizo’, which carries the meaning of “determine beforehand,” “ordain,” “to decide upon ahead of time.” So, predestination is God determining certain things to occur ahead of time. Romans 8:29-30 (NV) tells us that; “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”   

The important thing to remember is that no one deserves to be saved. We have all sinned (Romans 3:23), and are all worthy of eternal punishment, but it’s by grace that we have been saved (Ephesian 2:8). God predetermines that certain individuals will be saved. Numerous scriptures refer to believers in Christ being chosen (Ephesians 1:5, 1 Peter 1:1-2, Romans 8:33) 

Ephesians 1:11 (NIV) says: “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.” 

Salvation is not by accident or default; God chose us and we shouldn’t take that for granted; we are here to accomplish God’s mission and plans not to use Him to accomplish our plans.
God foreknows all things, events and people in one sense (Isaiah 46:10) all your time on earth was already planned; whatever concerns you has already been planned by Him. What causes one to struggle is because you have never discovered what God planned and purposed you for you, and whenever you out that zone, you will not be fruitful.

Struggling is as a result of doing that which you were not planned, purposed or graced for. God meant for you to be purposeful and bear fruit on this earth, that is why He planned for your presence here in advance. You're not here on earth to drift through life, you are here to accomplish that which God planned and purposed for you for the glory of His name. What usually brings about lack, frustration, misery and struggling is because you are doing things God didn’t plan you to do. Struggling is not our portion; you were not born to struggle. The Holy Spirit was given to us, to direct us; before you do anything, first ask your Counselor. Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) says; “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”. 

We received the gift of the Holy Spirit but do we use Him? The Holy Spirit will let you know what you should do and know where you should cast your nets. Jesus directed Peter on where to cast his net in John 21:6 (NLT) - “Then he said, ’Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!’ So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.”

Are you in the right place that God expects you to be? Are you doing what God expects you to be doing? Are you in the ministry God convicted you to serve? Are you drawing water from the right well? Are filled with the Holy Spirit? 

Do not imitate others as you may do so incorrectly. Remember that whenever you do something that is not according to the plan or will of God you will continually struggle and the devil will torment you. Reposition yourself. Life is not about speculating, it is about instruction and guidance, so let the Spirit of God guide you in accordance with His perfect will and plan

HOW TO KEEP GROWING IN THE WORD

Luke 8:5-15 (NLT)

“A farmer went out to plant his seed. As he scattered it across his field, some seed fell on a footpath, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it. 6 Other seed fell among rocks. It began to grow, but the plant soon wilted and died for lack of moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns that grew up with it and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seed fell on fertile soil. This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted!” When he had said this, he called out, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” 9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant………11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s word. 12 The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved. 13 The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation. 14 The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity. 15 And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.”

The parable of the sower in Luke 8 above highlights three major things;

1.  The Sower; signifies the person bringing to you the word of God
2. The Seed; signifies the word of God
3. The Soil; signifies those who receive the word - you and I

A number of things happened when the sower was planting his seed. The word of God - seed, has never changed; but it is the soil that has issues, so when you find a problem in your life with the seed, you need to examine the type of soil you are. There are different types of soil as seen below:

1. WAYWARD SOIL

Luke 8:5 (NLT) “………some seed fell on a footpath, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it.”

This soil symbolises the wayward people; this is explained in Luke 8:12 (NLT) that;  “The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved.” 

Such a person has been born again or in salvation for many years and has heard the word of God from various ministers. We know that the word has never changed but the moment such a person exits church, he or she forgets whatever has been taught or preached. These are the people represented by the footpath, before the week even ends, a “wayward person” isn’t in position to remember what was preached or taught in church, probably because he or she encounters situations crafted by the devil that causes him or her to get irritated and thus goes astray; but this is just a tactic meant to steal the word that was received. 

The devil is always roaming around, looking for someone to snatch the seed from; he will not target one person but the whole flock, and if you gladly fall into his temptation or traps, the word will be snatched away from you. The devil has a relentless strategy aimed at turning you into wayward soil, and if he knows that your purpose and future is bigger, he will even put in more effort. 

The bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) to; "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour". 

Peter compared satan to a lion, and what can we learn from this equivalence? Rangers in a game park will tell you never to turn your back and run from a charging lion. Why? lions are habituated to their victims fleeing but standing firm and facing them scares and confuses them. In most cases the charging lion will stop, retreat and turn away, so we oppose satan’s attacks by standing up to him. The Christian life requires that we fight the good fight, finish the race and keep the faith in order to receive the crown of righteousness that God has promised to those who have loved His appearing (2 Timothy 4:7-8); and part of finishing the race and receiving the crown of righteousness is standing firm and steadfastly against the plots of the devil. We should not panic or take flight, but rather offer firm resistance.

Peter's advice on how to contend with and overcome satan is worth considering and applying in our daily lives; he advises in 1 Peter 5:9 (NKJV) to; “Resist him, steadfast in the faith…...”   Let’s look at the words in this scripture:

- Resist means to stand up to the devil and be firm. Our response should not be panic, fear (the devil uses fear to control us) and flight, but  firm resistance through faith in Jesus Christ and his word.

- Steadfast translated from ancient Greek fighting term signifies standing firm without moving even under an attack from the enemy. For true Christians, we stand steadfast in faith, because we have faith and confidence in the One who is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). 

- Faith according to Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) is described as; “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". The foundation of faith is the word of God while the foundation of fear is deceit of the world. You can't have faith without the word of God; for faith is God’s Word activated. If you’ve ever read a verse in the Bible and all of a sudden thought, I can do this, i can face this, i will overcome, that is faith

Even though we understand that God is all-powerful and cares for us, we cannot afford to relax our guard spiritually. It is vital that we recognize that satan is relentless and wants to destroy us, and that is why we have to be faithful in doing our part - to be alert and guard the word we receive!

2. ROCKY SOIL

Luke 8:6 (NLT) “Other seed fell among rocks. It began to grow, but the plant soon wilted and died for lack of moisture.”

These are type of people who quickly pick the word and are even eager to share it; however, it withers and dies due to a lack of moisture (water). This type of soil is explained further in Luke 8:13 (NLT) that; “The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, and then they fall away when they face temptation.”

The dictionary defines moisture as water or other liquid diffused in small quantity as vapour, within a solid or condensed on a surface. The bible tells us that water is from God and this is seen in John 4:10-14 (NLT) when Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well:
“If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”11 “But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”13 Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

The water symbolizes the presence of God and without it is hard for you to be rooted in his word and flourish; it’s very easy to get into presence of God - when we praise and worship God, he descends down into our midst. Psalm 22:3 (AMP) says; “But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered].”

God delights in people, who hear the word, believe it and then start telling the world about it, so to avoid being the rocky soil, you need to continually dwell in the presence of God.

3. CONTAMINATED SOIL

Luke 8:6 (NLT) “Other seed fell among thorns that grew up with it and choked out the tender plants.”

This type of soil is explained in Luke 8:14(NLT) “The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.”

From the scripture, the cares of life may be our jobs, families, business etc. We ask God for all those things but when we get them, we turn them into idols, and other times we receive the word but due to worries and desire for money and wealth, our faith is tainted and the planted seed never reaches fruition. God knows that you need those things but he wants you to have faith and fully rely on him. Do not be contaminated by life situations; you have to be cautious and determine which soil you want to be!  Do not pursue wealth but God’s word which is all powerful and fades not. The bible says in Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) “But seek the first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”

4. FERTILE SOIL

Luke 8:8 (NLT) “Still other seed fell on fertile soil. This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted!” 

Jesus was a very good teacher because whenever he gave a parable, he explained its meaning; we see the fertile soil explained in Luke 8:15 (NLT) “And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.”

A noble heart seeks the truth. If you seek the truth but don’t apply it, then you are not good soil. Remember the problem is neither the sower nor the seed, but the soil. The good soil seeks, believes, keeps, lives and applies the truth. We should be the good soil that changes those around us. Broken unsaved people should change because of us not the other way round; do not be a lukewarm Christian - do not compromise with the world in order to fit or blend in, otherwise you become the wayward, rocky or contaminated soil chocked by the pleasures of the world. The good soil knows the truth and applies it - the good heart is one that wants to please God not people!

Being good soil is not limited to knowing that God loves you but you must crave to please him by doing what delights him. Remember the eye of the Lord is always looking around.  Proverbs 15:3 (AMP) says; “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good.”

If you are to produce crop, you need to persevere in the midst of challenges; that is the only way you can show others that God promises and fulfills. If the Lord has given you a word through the sower and that word has not reached fruition, you need check what type of soil you are.

You must work towards being the fertile fruitful soil!

Luke 8:15 (MSG)

“But the seed in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there’s a harvest."

THE SIN OF UNBELIEF

Hebrews 3:1-19 (NLT)  

“………7 That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today when you hear his voice, 8 don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness. 9 There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years. 10 So I was angry with them, and I said, ‘Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’ 11 So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’ 12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” 16 And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? 18 And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? 19 So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest...............”

Unbelief is a sin! Many however do not see it as a sin because the commonly known sins are those mentioned in Exodus 20:2-17

The dictionary defines the word belief as; “an opinion or judgment in which a person is fully persuaded”. Our beliefs are things that we are thoroughly convinced of usually but not always. They are ideas or concepts that we gather through acquired information and experience. Because of this, our beliefs can change over time as we gain more knowledge and experience more throughout our lives.

For one to believe it means there is something that has persuaded you; or you have an opinion about and you can stand by it, but this does not happen often. One can therefore say that the experiences we go through form a portion of our beliefs. We should also be aware that lack of faith and unbelief are different, but one leads to the other; faith on the other hand, combines belief plus actions and confidence, so belief on its own is not faith, because the later involves corresponding actions and confidence.

We have read Hebrews 3:11 above that God in his anger took an oath that the Israelites would never enter His place of rest because they had hardened their hearts.

When the Israelites were leaving Egypt, God performed many miracles but each time He worked for them, acknowledgement of His saving hand was short lived and that un-forgetfulness resulted in complaining. However much they saw miracles and wonders, they were not enough to persuade them to believe that God was able to do whatever He promised He would do. In reading their history, you will see that they saw what God had done; His mighty works, ability and mercy but still they did not believe. The sin of unbelief can affect you - there is a lot you will not achieve in the kingdom of God if you do not believe. For instance God has worked many miracles in our midst; the barren have been able to bear children; those who were once jobless are now employed and I know he has done something for you as well; but if we fail to believe the God who saves, the God who heals, the God has worked for us and among us, who then shall we believe?

Unbelief leads to disobedience!

Adam and Eve’s first sin was not disobedience, but it was that they did not believe what God said. They were given strict instructions in the garden but in their unbelief they were persuaded and listened to the lies of the devil causing them to disobey God, yet this would not be so had they believed God and his word. The sins and transgressions we commit are due to our unbelief. Take an example of a child who is told not to touch fire because he or she will be seared, but intentionally disobeys the warning and goes ahead to touch the fire anyway; this way the child is challenging your instructions in the same manner, Israel disobeyed God. God had performed many miracles and wonders; (led them through the red sea, fed them with manna, rained quails) but still they did not believe, hence God’s reaction in Hebrews 3:10-11.

During the Exodus, 99.98% of the Israelites who trekked form Egypt died in the desert. They did not to make it to the Promised Land because of disobedience which was brought about by their unbelief – only Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land (Numbers 32:11-12), the majority who entered it were those born on the way. They experienced God’s love, saving hand and provision but they were not convinced that He was able to fulfill what He had promised them; they angered Him with their unbelief. In the same way, if we are not persuaded by what we have tested, experienced and seen - if we believe not, we shall not enter our rest.

Antidote to restlessness

Hebrews 3:11 (NLT) “So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.”

Because of unbelief we go about with a lot of anxiety. You may feel that things are not working out because you have not realized what God purposed for you, promised you or spoke forth in your life. This usually happens when you are cornered by challenging situations; you become perplexed and start panicking which leads to a general state of unrest. You cannot get into your rest until you believe God and His word. The Rhema word preached in church has the power to get you out of your situation but many still do not know this; some still want to approach the pastors after service for extra benediction and prayers neglecting the word that has already been spoken forth in the service. We will not get into our promises or place of rest until we believe God’s servants and the word He sends through them.

Belief Obstructions

When you believe and hold onto the word that has been spoken in church, you are going to breakthrough in a great way. If we believed, we would not do some of the things that we do or even say some of the things we say. When you have many alternatives before you, you cannot see the hand of God. The Bible says in Psalms 55:22-23 (MSG) that; “Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders - he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin. 23 But you, God, will throw the others into a muddy bog, cut the lifespan of assassins and traitors in half. And I trust in you.”

Many times just like the Israelites, we test and try God; we receive a word for the season and still remain unsettled and restless. We are not at rest because we do not believe God, His word and servants. Jehoshaphat teaches in 2 Chronicles 20:20 (NKJV) that; “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” God uses His servants and works through them, so if your pastor says a word and you do not believe, you shall not prosper.

Where you have a challenge in believing, take action, make your altar and lay your burdens at the feet of Jesus, then you shall enter into your rest. We do not have power over the burdens we carry but the Lord our God has all the authority and control over everything on earth. The bible says in Proverbs 21:1 (AMPC) that; “The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as are the watercourses; He turns it whichever way He wills.” Believe God and you will live a restful and stress free life; for when you trust God, you rest. What you choose to do with the word spoken into your life – prophesy or Rhema is what will determine what you will receive in this season of exaltation.

Unbelief is brought about by lack understanding; the more you work on your understanding and revelation of the word of God, the more you are going to believe and have faith in God. We face many challenges because we do not know the necessary scriptures to encourage us or use to fight the devil at that specific time. You should however remember that the bible has an answer to every question you have and to every problem you are facing - it’s the lamp to your feet and your navigation compass.

We do not believe because we become too familiar with God’s servants – pastors; we know their families, we have a glimpse of their history and even leave in the same neighbourhoods or at times even related to them, and this familiarity if not worked on, compromises our faith. Mathew 13:53-58 (NKJV) gives an insight in to this:

“Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables that He departed from there.  54 When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” 57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”

We need to work on our unbelief as a church. In the passage above we see that Jesus did few great works among the people in his home town because of their unbelief. We should not become like these people, who prevented the hand of God from working amongst them. In Mark 9:23 (NLT), Jesus had the perfect answer to the doubtful father who had brought his son possessed by am impure spirit to Him; “What do you mean, ‘if I can?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The same hand that has healed one person can heal another if they believe. If we believe the God who has saved, healed and performed many other miracles among us, then we shall see His Mighty hand as well; but if we see Jesus as a mere carpenter’s son, He will not work for us. Like wise if the church continues to see the pastors as mere country men or colleagues among them, then they will not spiritually benefit them; they will go elsewhere and they will do great works among those who believe.

How do we work on our unbelief?

One way to curb our unbelief is if we become fully persuaded of the truth – Jesus (the way, truth and life) instead of the misconception and the lies. If we expose our minds to the truth and we are convinced and confident, then we shall stand firm and unshaken. We need to fully have faith in God, his word and servants so as to eradicate any drop of unbelief, so that we can become great people in the anointing.

GOD — OUR ALPHA AND OMEGA

Revelations 22:13 (NLT)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

Everything and decision we undertake from career path to business ventures, investments, marriage and ministry should all start with God. Everything we do should be according to the will of God because He is the beginning, so there should be a word from God before anything happens.

When you put God first, He will also prioritize your issues and you can never be the last. God will always have the final say in our lives if we give Him the number one position. God can never usher us into what He wont sustain and finish but whatever He begins, He completes. Philippians 1:6 (GNT) says; 
“And so I am sure that God, who begun this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished”

Let the foundation of our plans be established in the Lord; for He knows the itinerary, outcome and finale of whatever we undertake or try to pursue. The bible says in Isaiah 46:10 (NLT) says; 
“Only I can tell you the future before it even happens”

Many things we do or the projects we venture in fail because they aren't started by God. Don't rush to do anything before you consult God because He is the Alpha and Omega, and once He starts something or gives you a green light to do something, there are no failures and dead-ends; He accomplishes to perfection whatever He starts - for He perfects that which concerns Him. 

We have initiated projects, started businesses, entered partnerships, relocated to first world countries, switched careers, founded ministries but then later we witness subtraction instead of multiplication, why? Because at the foundation stage, God wasn't the Alpha. The bible says in Proverbs 1:24-29 (NLT) that;

"You ignored my advice 25 and rejected the correction I offered. So I will laugh when you are in trouble! 26 I will mock you when disaster overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, 27 when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you. “When they cry for help, I will not answer. 28 Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. For they hated knowledge 29 and chose not to fear the LORD. They rejected my advice."

21 years ago, God recalled me from the city and instructed me to move to Nangabo village to start a ministry and serve His people. It's never easy to the leave the rosy life in the city and settle for the village mud and dust but because it was God's mission and He was the author, i obliged and obeyed. The land for the establishment of the church premises was offered freely by someone God had instructed. It was a bushy parcel of land that needed a lot of intensive landscaping but from the inception to the current stage; from the tree shade to a bent papyrus structure, from an iron sheet temporary casing  to a solid structure, I have never seen God forsake us and from then to now, He is still the Alpha in all we do. 

The will of God will never take you where His grace cannot sustain you. If He gave you a job, He will sustain you and also see you grow from a junior position to a managerial level. Don’t do things impulsively but rather take instructions and directions from the Holy Spirit - for if God is your first, you will never be the last. But if God is not your Alpha, He will never be your Omega; for He will never finish what He did not start!

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NLT) 

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. 8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
